working principle of thermal power plant

working principle of thermal power plant

A power plant which used steam to produce electricity are called thermal power plant. A power plant is also known as power station or power house. It is also define as - "The power plant which convert chemical energy of Fossil fuel into electrical energy is called thermal power plant.

working principle of thermal power plant

The basic requirements of this power plant is "stream" which we will get from boiling of water by burning of fossil fuel like coal, oil, and gas. The burning of fossil fuels produce acidic gases such as sulphur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide which is used to boil water and produce steam. Due to this high pressure of steam rotates or turns the shafts of turbine and generate electricity.

Principal of thermal power plant:-

Thermal power plant is work on the principle of "Rankine cycle". In this cycle, first water converted into steam in boiler chamber the steam is use to turn turbine. After this steam goes to condenser to convert in to water and its reuse. This cycle is known as Rankine cycle.

components of thermal power plant:-

There are various component which are use in thermal power plant are:-

1. Furnance:- This is starting part or chamber of thermal power plant. Because, in furnance produce heat by burning of fossil fuels which help us to produce steam in boiler.

2. Boiler:- The boiler chamber contain water in it. Due to this burning of fossil fuel in furnance produce heat which is used to boil water and produce steam.

3. Turbine:- The steam which are formed by boiling water builds up a high pressure. These high pressure of the steam turns or rotates the blades of turbine.

4. Condenser:- The spent steam coming out of turbine chamber. Its get cooled on condenser chamber for converting into water. On cooling, steam condense to form water. This water again sent to boiler chamber to from fresh steam.

5. Generator:- Due to rotating the blades of turbine, the shafts of generator also moves. Hence, the current will be produce from the generator. This generator chamber mostly seem in all the power plant.

Working of thermal power plant:-.

Firstly, coal is burned in a furnance to produce heat. The heat help to boil the water in boiler chamber. So, the steam in produce from the boiling water builds up an high pressure. The high pressure used to turn the blades of turbine. The shafts of the turbine connected to generator. So, when the turbine rotates, it's shafts also rotates and drive the generator. Hence, the generator produce electricity.

The spent steam coming out of turbine chamber. Its get cooled on condenser chamber for converting into water. On cooling, steam condense to form water. This water again sent to boiler chamber to from fresh steam. This process is repeated again and again.
